Hundreds lined the streets of Hastings Wednesday to welcome home a soldier serving overseas.
Ryan Fitzgerald was serving in South Korea as a fleet manager.
The Nebraska native has been serving overseas for about a year.
His family organized the homecoming today, as hundreds lined the streets of Burlington Avenue.
Ryan said he is happy to be home and spend time with his family.
He said the homecoming meant a lot to him.
"It was amazing! It was so surreal I had no idea what was going on," Fitzgerald said. "It was actually very very cool to see the citizens of Hastings to support the troops and everything. That gave me more of a reason to do what I'm doing."
In 3 months, Ryan will be transferring to Japan. His wife and two sons will be moving with him.
