An unfamiliar name is making a push to be the next US Senator in Washington for Nebraska. Jim Jenkins will run on the ticket as an Independent. He's been on the campaign trail since October.

Tonight, Jenkins hosted a meet and greet at Murphy's in Hastings. He's a fifth generation cattle rancher from Custer County. Jenkins is up against facing Republican nominee Ben Sasse and Democratic nominee Dave Domina.

There are 230,000 non-partisan voters in Nebraska that couldn't vote in the May primary. Jenkins says those voters need a voice in Congress.

Jenkins has collected almost 6,000 signatures. Jenkins expects to hand those into the Secretary of State next week to be placed on the ballot.
