Independent US candidate Jim Jenkins is questioning Nebraska Farm Bureau's endorsement of opponent Ben Sasse. But, Farm Bureau isn't changing their stance.
Today, Jenkins sent a letter to the Farm Bureau questioning its endorsement of Ben Sasse to replace retiring Senator Mike Johanns.
In his letter, Jenkins says Sasse, while very intellectual, has virtually no agricultural or private sector experience.
Jenkins says he is the only candidate in the race with extensive, long-term experience in agriculture, alternative fuels, and the food industry. Jenkins has served two terms on the Nebraska Ethanol Board.
Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson responded to Jenkins comments.
"Sasse's workman like grassroots campaign has shown he genuinely cares about what farmers, ranchers and rural communities have to say. And he's demonstrated that he is committed to being a strong voice for Nebraska's farm and ranch families in Washington DC," Nelson said.
Sasse and Jenkins will face off in the November against Democrat nominee Dave Domina and Independent Todd Watson.
