Former Sutton resident John “Jack” Edward Eliason, 92, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, NE.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Federated Church in Sutton, NE with Rev. Harry Cross officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton, NE. Visitation will be Friday, from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sutton American Legion or to the Federated Church.

John “Jack” was born December 22, 1921, in Clay Center, NE to Emil and Ida (Deming) Eliason. He was the youngest of eight children. In 1936, the family moved to Iowa and he graduated from Blanco, IA in 1941. After high school he returned to Nebraska. On October 19, 1944, he married Rita Swanson and to this union three children were born: John, William and Roxann. He entered the United States Army in 1944 and served as a mechanic until his discharge in 1946. He and his twin brother Dick opened Eliason Bros. Body Shop in 1948 and worked together until 1959 when Dick returned to Iowa. Jack then owned and operated Eliason’s GMC/ Body Shop until he retired in 1984. After retirement, he and Rita enjoyed traveling. Until 2003, they would take their motor home to Texas and Arizona where they made many new friends.

Jack moved to Heritage Crossings in March of 2006, following a stroke. Many special and loving caregivers touched his life and made the last years enjoyable.

He was a member of the Federated Church, Sutton American Legion and the Sutton Volunteer Fire Dept. for 18 years.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards with friends and neighbors and in later years golfing.

He is survived by his children, Jack Eliason of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Bill (Gail) Eliason of Topeka, KS; and Roxann (Jim) Baumann of Grafton, NE; grandchildren, Joshua (Christy) Eliason of Overland Park, KS; Jade (Jamie) Eliason of Santa Barbara, CA; Zachary Baumann of State College, PA; Aaron (Bobbi) Baumann of Fairmont, NE; and Megan (Tyler) Gewecke of Geneva, NE; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Ainsley Eliason both of Overland Park, KS; Tanner, Tessa and Alice Eliason all of Lake Havasu City, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Ida; wife of 60 years, Rita; brothers, Harold and Lawrence; sisters, Dorothy Crawford; Marion Thompson; Marjorie Hansen Krisl; and Helen Burke; and twin brother, Dick.
