Johnny Eugene Schriner, the son of Edna (Malick) and Elmer Schriner, was born October 21, 1945 in Franklin County Nebraska near Riverton. He departed life on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 67 years and 11 months.
John received his formal education attending schools at Cowles, Red Cloud and graduated from Riverton High School with the class of 1963. John moved to Hastings, Nebraska where he was employed with H&M. In 1965 he was drafted into the United States Army and was assigned with MED CO GLWAH 5th USA.
SP4 Schriner received his Marksman (Rifle) and NDSM during his service time. He was discharged from Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo in 1967.
On September 28, 1970 he was united in marriage with Jan Holmberg at Mankato, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children, Tyrha, Melody and Jeff. John worked for the Webster County Department and they made their home northwest of Red Cloud on the farm. They later moved to Inavale and in 1974 to the Guide Rock Community, where he began driving a truck. In 1991 he returned to the Roads Department where he remained until sustaining an injury on December 6, 1993 that necessitated his retirement.
John possessed a number of interests and activities in his leisure time. He enjoyed coon hunting with family and brother Jack, and four-wheeling. He enjoyed lantern fishing and tractor drives. In his younger years he participated in area rodeos and worked as a rodeo clown. His love for his family was immeasurable and he especially cherished time spent with his grandkids.
John was a man of many names. his handle was Wounded Knee to his trucker friends. His wife simply called him hon. Possum Blonde by his coon hunting buddies. Dad, Pop, Old Guy, Pa-Pa and Grandpa and occasionally Old Fart. And of course a few we can't mention.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Connie Miller.
Left to treasure his memory are his loving wife Jan of Franklin Nebraska: Tyrha Lammers and husband, Steve and son Tony of Inavale, Nebraska, Melody Brown and husband John and children, Megan, Mackenzie, Dalton, and Morgan of Cowles, Nebraska; Jeff Schriner and wife Amy, and children Paden and Emorie of Orleans, Nebraska; a brother Jerry Schriner and wife Carol of Loup Ciy, Nebraska; a sister Judy Gilmore and husband Gary of Hastings; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held Friday, 10:30 a.m., September 27, 2013 at the Missionary Church in Franklin, Nebraska with the Rev. Kasey Loschen officiating. Interment will be at the Riverton Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established by the family.
