Kenneth L. Young, 74, of Palmer, died at Life Quest Center in Palmer, on Saturday, October 19, 2013. The family has requested that there be no services. Interment will be in the Purple Cane Cemetery near Rogers, Nebraska.
Kenneth was born to Paul C. and Alberta L. (Heckman) Young in O'Neill on January 24, 1939. Kenneth attended grade school in O'Neill until the family moved to Doniphan in the fall of 1951, where he continued his education. He worked in construction around the Grand Island and Hastings area, and was also a groundskeeper at the Hastings Regional Center. Around the age of 24 Kenneth suffered from some illnesses that forced him to remain a resident of mental health centers. He moved to Precious Times Residential Mental Health Center in Grand Island, where he lived until 2010 when he moved to Life Quest Mental Health Center in Palmer, where resided until his death. Kenneth was married to Judith DeBacker, and they had one daughter, Paula (Young) Glandt. Kenneth was a member of the Methodist faith, he enjoyed playing pool, watching movies, listening to music, and tinkering with cars. He was very well known for his dry sense of humor, and his bluntness.
Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Paula Glandt of Las Vegas, NV; one brother, Paul (Saundra) Young of Dayton, OH; three sisters, Carol Reimers of St. Paul, Luella (Robert) Buetow of St. Paul, and Janet Knox of Florence, CO; two grandchildren, Sebastian Young and Aspen Glandt both of Las Vegas; one great-grandchild; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lawrence Young; one sister, Inez Young; and ex-wife, Judith Young.
