Another bill passed in second reading this morning, one that will let Nebraskans keep their guns in the event of an emergency.
Imperial Senator Mark Christensen introduced LB 390 last session in response to events during Hurricane Katrina when police disarmed residents during evacuations. This session a judiciary committee amendment narrowed the scope of the bill.

LB 390 removes the governor's authority to suspend or limit the sale, dispensing or transportation of firearms during a state of emergency. An amendment by Hastings Senator Les Seiler was also attached to the bill, allowing firearms on school campuses for use in historical reenactments, hunter education programs or as part of an honor guard.

The bill must now pass on final reading to make it out of this session.
