Leroy G. Cote, 83, of Grand Island died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his home. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. Father Todd Philipsen will officiate. Burial will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm with a Rosary service at 7:00 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to YMCA, VFW American Legion, or the Grand Generation Center.

Leroy was born May 23, 1930 in Winnebago, NE to Meddie and Emma (Girard) Cote. He grew up in Jackson, NE and graduated from Ponca High School in 1948. He played basketball was also was captain of the football team. He entered the United States Army in 1951, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He worked as a lineman for Knox Construction, where he worked for over 30 years before starting his own power line company.

Leroy was united in marriage to Josephine Katherine Budd at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad, NE on February 27, 1954.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the VFW, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing, boating and water skiing, square dancing, going to YMCA, playing with his kids and grandkids, and traveling with his family.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife: Josephine Cote; children: Bryan and Teresa Sandquist of Omaha, NE, Kirk and Kelli Cote of Arvada, CO, Meddie and Joyce Cote of Cozad, Leroy, Jr. and Jane Cote of Grand Island, Bob and Mary Singkofer of Saint Paul, NE, Kim and Diana McDonald of Grand Island; 26 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.

Additional survivors include brother: Arsene and Betty Cote of Sedalia, MO; and sister-in-law: Joan Cote of Sioux City, IA.

Leroy was preceded in death by son: Timothy Cote, three brothers; and one sister.
