Rick Squiers volleyball team at UNK is predicted to be great again. Why? Liz McGowen, Ellie Pesavento, Katie Solkolowski and a cast of thousands. The Lopers are favored to win the league, the MIAA, which they did a season ago and contend for the national championship. The squad was 35–3 last season but lost in the Regional to six time defending National Champ Concordia St. Paul of Minnesota in the regional in 4. That is the team they must beat to get to the NCAA Elite Eight national tournament. "We were disappointed last year in regionals and we want to get back out there and do good in regionals and try even harder to get better and get farther in the tournament." "We'd actually like another chance at them this year. We feel we have the talent to go toe to toe with somebody that and there's a chance we might see them in the premier tournament in Denver, They're the measuring stick and we think we're close and hopefully can get over the hump this year." Coach Squiers sent his team through two workouts today, here in the morning and later in the afternoon in the Blue and Gold scrimmage. The games start for real the afternoon of Friday September 6th at high noon when the Lopers host William Jewell College. They'll make it a doubleheader that night facing Chadron State at eight in the six team two day season opening Victorian Inn–Runza Classic. The Lopers, ranked 3rd in the nation's AVCA Division 2 poll, host Matt Buttermore's Hastings Broncos September 10th.
