Lorna J. (Grotz) Helzer, 83, of Souderton and formerly of Grand Island, NE, passed away unexpectedly November 27, 2013 at her home. She was the wife of the late David W. Helzer who passed away in 1967.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 6th at All Faiths Funeral Home. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery.
Family will be receiving friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home and an hour prior to services.
An additional Memorial Service will be held 2PM, Friday December 20, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446, where the family will greet friends from 1 – 2PM.
Mrs. Helzer was born September 25, 1930 in St. Libory, NE, Lorna was a daughter of the late Bernhard and Lena (Rehder) Grotz.
Lorna attended Grand Island Senior High School and was later employed as a clerk for the former Hinky Dinky Grocery store and Bill’s Trading Post. She was also a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island.
In 1988, Lorna relocated to Pennsylvania and was employed by Dock Woods Community where she helped take care of the residents’ laundry for many years. She became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a dedicated donor for the American Red Cross and served as a greeter on Sunday mornings. In addition, Lorna was involved with the Harleysville Senior Center, was an avid Phillies fan and loved cheering on her home state’s Nebraska Cornhuskers. She loved to bake and all of her family looked forward to their homemade birthday cake arriving in the mail. Most of all Lorna will be remembered by her family as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving are Lorna’s daughters, Pam Foland and her husband, Dale, of Thornton, CO, Deb Cleary and her husband, Mike, of Grand Island, Sheryl Shelton and her husband, Steve, of Grand Island, Tamie Ladley and her husband, David, of Lederach, PA, and Lori Borglum and her husband, Christian, of Souderton, PA . She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Elaine Wissing.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Maxine Wilson and 2 infant brothers.
