Turf toe sounds so innocuous ...a sprain of the ligaments around the big toe joint

But its one of those nagging injuries that coaches...players and trainers alike

Hate to see

For three years ...Taylor Martinez has been a mainstay under center for big red

But lately ...his time on the field has been

In his absence ...Tommy Armstrong junior has played well

Showing both promise ...and poise

Now we head into the fourth week of Martinez's injury

His status for Saturday still very much up in the air

And a looming bye week after the match up with Purdue

May be a deciding factor into whether or not the senior signal caller suits up against the Boilermakers

"That will play a part in my mind, First, I want to win this football game. It's the next thing. It's Purdue. We're not in the position right now to save anybody. It's, you got to do what you got to do to win the game. All I am concerned about is Saturday."

"I'm going to compete. I'm going to compete to start and I'm going to compete just to be the number one guy like I do every week. If Taylor comes back, he comes back. My main objective is to prepare the right way in case my number is called."

I guy who had his number called plenty on Saturday

20 times actually ...Ameer Abdullah

The Junior ...went off

Amassing 225 yards on the ground ...a career best

And today ...earning big ten co–offensive player of the week honors

Some notes from this morning's press conference

Taylor Martinez ...same old same old to day

Bo says he can run full speed, it's cutting that's problematic

Also Josh Mitchell, hampered with an ankle and Jamal Turner with a hamstring

Expected to return to action in a few days
