Funeral Services for Marvin W. Titkemeier will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wilcox, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell, officiating. Interment will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery at Wilcox with military honors provided by the Wilcox American Legion Post #377 in conjunction with the United States Army National Guard Military Honors Team.
Marvin Wayne Titkemeier, 83 years of age, of Wilcox, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Marvin was born April 25, 1930 on the family farm south of Wilcox in Harlan County, Nebraska, the youngest of three children born to Herman and Sophia (Gellermann) Titkemeier.
Marvin was baptized on May 18, 1930 and confirmed on April 12, 1944 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Wilcox. He received his primary education from the Freewater District School south of Wilcox and then attended Wilcox High School.
Following his education, Marvin engaged in farming on the family farm south of Wilcox. He then served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army from November 28, 1951 until his honorable discharge on March 15, 1952.
On June 1, 1952, Marvin was united in marriage to Sylvia Teda Leners at the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Wilcox and to this union three sons were born: Larry Wayne, Lyle Lee and Lonnie Ray. The family made their home on the Titkemeier home place south of Wilcox in Harlan County, Nebraska. Marvin was very proud of the fact that he was blessed to operate the family farm that his grandfather had purchased. Marvin and the family were honored with the Pioneer Family Farm Award for 100 years of continuous ownership in 2002. Marvin and Sylvia moved into Wilcox in 1983, yet continued to farm. On September 24, 2010, Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia.
Marvin was a lifetime member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wilcox, where he was a devoted member. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #377 of Wilcox.
Marvin enjoyed visiting with his friends during lunch at the Senior Center and quite often would stay to play cards as well. He was a devoted and loving husband and father, and his pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Sylvia and his parents; Marvin was preceded in death by his two sisters: Ordean Eckhardt and her husband, Frank, and Luetta Bogan.
Marvin leaves to mourn his passing; his three sons: Larry and his wife, Jean of St. George, Kansas, Lyle and his wife, Colleen of rural Wilcox and Lonnie and his wife, Lori of Holdrege, Nebraska; his brother-in-law, Merle Leners and his wife, Suzie of Salina, Kansas; seven grandchildren: Angie Ellis, Scott Titkemeier and his wife, Jenny, Malissa Grothe and her husband, Landon, Bob Titkemeier and Miranda Titkemeier; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Wilcox.
A memorial has been established in Marvin’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
