Sutton resident Maurice “Maury” G. Yost, 77, died Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Fairview Manor in Fairmont, NE.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sutton, NE with Rev. Travis King officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton, NE. Visitation will be Monday, January 27, 2014, from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE.

Memorial Contributions may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date.

Maurice “Maury” G. Yost was born March 6, 1936, in Sutton Nebraska, to Adolf and Freda (Sterkel) Yost. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1954.

He entered the United States Navy in 1955. On February 14, 1958, he married Eleanor Serr. In 1959, he was honorably discharged from the Navy. After his service in the Navy he returned to Sutton and worked as an electrician for the City of Sutton. He opened Maury’s Place in 1965, and retired from the bar in 2001.

Maury was baptized and confirmed at Emanuel Reformed Church in Sutton. He was later a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Sutton. He married Judy (Bruns) Kelch on June 19, 2004.

Maury was a member of the Sutton Volunteer Fire Department from 1965 to 1994, a member of the VFW, Sutton American Legion, and a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

Maury enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, as well as hunting and fishing, and Husker Football.

Survivors include his wife, Judy of Sutton, NE; son, Ty and wife Annette Yost of Sutton, NE; daughter, Angie and husband Jason Bringenberg of Lincoln, NE; stepdaughter, Brenda Cummins of Sutton, NE; 5 grandchildren, Shelby Yost, Brody Yost, Ellie Bringenberg, Jillian Bringenberg, Kyle Cummins and numerous other nieces, nephews, friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolf and Freda; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and June Yost; sister and brother-in-law, Melva and Lloyd Stertz; sister and brother-in-law, Rogene and Hugh Jones; and wife, Gloria Griess Yost.
