Today state senators are scheduled to begin debate over raising the state's minimum wage. The state's current minimum wage sits at $7.25 an hour.
Omaha Senator Jeremy Nordquist has proposed raising the state's minimum wage to 9 dollars over the next three years. Despite vocal opposition from some candidates running to represent Nebraska in the U.S. Senate, a recent poll revealed that 55 percent of the state is in support of the increase.
That poll, conducted by the Voices for Children Group also showed that women support the increase by almost a 3 to 1 ratio. Across the country, President Obama has proposed the federal minimum wage be raised from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour.
