There's a back and forth battle going on in the Nebraska Legislature. Today, lawmakers used their power to override Governor Heinemann's veto. They voted to restore 61 million dollars of the Governor's 65 million dollars in line item vetoes.
Lawmakers voted to override the Governor's vetoes on three budget bills; LB 905, LB 906, LB 130. Heineman said he was against the spending increases and thought the bill lacked property tax cuts. Today, the Appropriations Committee moved to override vetoes on 24 sections of the budget.
Omaha Senator Beau McCoy tried to add three amendments to the committee's override motion. He lost two and withdrew the third.
