And they're off.

Best Buy opened up at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving, allowing an anxious line to rush through the doors.

Some of them waited for hours...even planning beforehand by bringing lawn chairs.

For others, it was a little more spontaneous.

"I was actually sitting in my living room watching some Harry Potter, and I figured my TVs really old so why not go out and buy a new one?" Wood River resident Nathan Badberg said.

Black Friday has become Black Thursday...

But for Kmart that's nothing new.

They've been open on Thanksgiving Day for decades...

Although this year they're staying open for 41 straight hours.

At a store that usually closes at 9 p.m....employees are left working odd hours.

Operating on Thanksgiving is a corporate decision.

Some of these shoppers think that Black Friday should stay on Friday.

But, it's still not stopping them from leaving their Thanksgiving turkey in search of those bargain deals.

"If I wait until tomorrow then the stuff I want is all gone,” Kmart shopper Melanie Strong said. “If you want the good deals you have to go out and get them on Thanksgiving."

Melanie Strong is home from Oklahoma for the holidays.

She remembers Thanksgiving in Hastings as a time for family.

But with six kids, she's out looking for deals tonight.

Nonetheless, she's got a request for some of the nation's top retailers.

"I know it's crazy and I know it's hectic. But wait until 5 a.m. Friday morning,” Strong said.

Take one look at the shopping crowds out tonight...

And it's crystal clear how unlikely that is.

If the election was today, who would you vote for Grand Island mayor?
