The Nebraska State Patrol welcomed its newest member to the team today.
The Agency badged their newest mascot Trooper Buck-L-Up at their Mobile Command Post on the State Fair Grounds Monday morning.
Colonel David Sankey, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol talks about why this new member is important.
"Mascots really connect well with citizens and especially with youth and it's a great way to get somebody out in the community to share the message about public safety about the importance of wearing your seatbelt when you're driving not driving distracted not driving impaired, these types of things," said Sankey.
Sankey says that the new mascot is part of their push to educate the public about driving safely coming at a time where fatalities on Nebraska's roads continue to rise.
The Nebraska State Patrol received a $9,000 grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation to create the mascot.
