There will not be a ballot issue this fall asking Nebraska voters if they want casino gambling in the state.
The legislature's General Affairs Committee opted not to take action on the proposal by State Senator Russ Karpisek; effectively killing the bill for this session.
Karpisek estimates that 400 million Nebraska dollars are going to casinos in neighboring states every year. His proposal would have allocated half of the state's casino tax revenue to property tax relief. A similar measure did go to voters in 2004; it was voted down.
