The "no parking" ban approved by Grand Island city council for Stolley Park Road earlier this month will be in effect by the first day of school.
Council voted 8 to 1 to outlaw parking on the road. They took it as a safety precaution, as cars parked along the road have led to a number of crashes. And with two schools located on the busy thoroughfare, timing is crucial for the city to get the new law enforced.
The "no parking" signs should be in town by August 1st. The city will now look at making the road a 3 or 4 lane street, adding three new traffic lights between Locust and Webb, and re-striping it in the spring.
