The face of health care is changing, and so is the role of the licensed practical nurse.
The LPNA has begun its conference at Kearney's Holiday Inn.
This year's motto?
"Nursing in a New Era."
Wound care, new products and fatigue treatment were discussed.
But a big topic was the expansion of nurses.
IV therapy and home care are becoming more common for nurses.
These are tasks nurses are already fulfilling.
But they need to pass a certification test before they can add those duties.
Part of the aim Thursday was to spread word about nursing's new age.
"Actually the role of the LPN, we're trying to expand that role a little bit. And get it out so that they understand our scope,” said former LPNA President Maxine Guy.
That conference will continue tomorrow.
