Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine has confirmed 2 dead.
Omaha Interim Fire Chief Bernard Kanger has confirmed there are fatalities, but is not saying exactly how many at this time. 10 people were taken to area hospitals, four are in critical condition. The International Nutrition building is being secured and officials will begin the recovery effort in the next few hours.
38 people were in the building at the time of the collapse. Nine people have been hospitalized, 10 people are confirmed hurt. According to officials some are still unaccounted for.
Rescue crews and firefighters are on the scene of a reported explosion and building collapse in Omaha.
The collapse happened around 10 a.m. near 77th & I streets. At least four people were transported from the scene and a Level One Multi-Casualty alert was issued from dispatchers. A mass casualty triage unit and special operations unit are at the scene, in addition to numerous first responders. Some streets in the area have been shut down to regular traffic.
Kari Cook told WOWT that her fiance, John Broderick, sent her a text message just before 10 a.m. It read, "Honey, there's been an accident. I'm hurt. I'm trapped." Cook said she has not heard from Broderick since receiving the text.
Some of the pictures you see on your screen were posted by the Omaha Police. Also, an employee at Hills Brothers shared one of the pictures... He said no one at Hills Brothers heard or felt an explosion, but noticed the building next door on fire.
