Michael Petersen will spend life behind bars for the death of his ex-wife. The Glenvil man accused of double murder was sentenced today in Buffalo County District Court. Petersen was crying as the judge read his sentencing. News 5 was in the courtroom when that sentencing was handed down.
Petersen was sentenced to life in prison for the November 2013 shooting death of his ex-wife Nancy Petersen. In April, Petersen pleaded no contest to first degree murder in the case. Petersen still faces the death penalty if he is convicted in Hall County for the November death of Grand Island attorney Todd Eslbernd. A trial date has not been set for that case.
Buffalo County Attorney Shawn Eatherton says today's ruling will help bring justice for Nancy.
"I think that justice was served to the best extent of our system. Again, nothing brings Nancy Peterson back however Mr. Peteresen will serve the rest of his life in prison."
Coming up tonight on News 5 at Six, What was the motive? Nathan Gogo was in the courtroom today. He breaks down the details about the case, including prior incidents with Petersen.
