A pit bull was shot and killed Tuesday morning by a Grand Island Police officer. The incident happened when the dog turned on officers as they were breaking up a fight with another dog.
Grand Island Police Officers responded to a call at the Relax Inn in the 500 block of West 2nd Street around 7:30 AM. When they arrived they saw two adult male pit bulls fighting with each other.
One of the dogs turned towards the officers and an officer fired. They shot and killed the pit bull with a semi-automatic rifle. The owner of the dogs, Rebecca Creech, was in the room at the time of the fight. Rebecca was bitten and scratched by the dogs, paramedics treated her on the scene.
