A bill that could mean more jobs in the Hastings area is up for a vote this morning. To help ease overcrowding in the state's prisons, Hastings Senator Les Seiler proposed upgrading buildings at the Hastings Regional Center.

Lawmakers already gave first round approval to the bill with a 38 to 0 vote. Today senators will be asked to give second round approval to LB 999.

The facility would be used to treat inmates with mental health issues and drug and alcohol addictions. Hastings Mayor Vern Powers and Hastings City Council have shown their support for Senator Seiler's bill.
