A multi state; multi agency traffic enforcement effort that encompassed all 2900 miles of the Interstate 80 corridor has come to an end.
The I-80 Challenge was an 8 day effort designed to reduce crashes on the federal roadway.
In Nebraska, there was only one fatality during that time, but it was the high profile death of Aurora Police Chief Godfrey Brokenrope.
State Patrol officials say that the fatality is a reminder that one life lost in a traffic crash is one too many.
26 total crashes occurred on the Nebraska portion of the Interstate during the enforcement period.
Also during that time, 882 traffic citations and 12 DWI arrests were made.
