     A Celebration of Life Service for Ruby F. Bowman will be held at the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, Nebraska on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Tom Thompson, officiating. Interment will be in the Wilcox Cemetery at Wilcox, Nebraska, following the service.

     Ruby Francis (Lieb) Bowman, 63 years of age, of Loomis, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at her home in Loomis, following a courageous battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Ruby was born April 18, 1951 at Kearney, Nebraska, a twin to her brother, Robert and the third of five children born to Robert and Lenora Maxine (Webster) Lieb. Ruby received her education from Wilcox Public School. She then pursued her passion of caring for others in the field of nursing, receiving her LPN at the Kearney State College, and later achieved her RN degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney through the UNMC program, where she graduated with high distinction. Ruby then went into action supporting others in their health care needs, working as an Emergency Room Nurse at the Phelps Memorial Health Center at Holdrege, Nebraska for over 35 years prior to her retirement. She also taught CPR, seat belt safety, and child restraint classes. Through the years of her service, Ruby received training as a certified emergency nurse, was awarded the Nebraska Hospital Association “Caring Kind” Award in 2002 and the Irma Kyle Kramer Award for Academic Excellence for highest GPA in December of 1996.  

     In June of 1967, she was united in marriage to Evald Eugene Pouk and to this union four children were born: Laurie Ann, Angela Sue, Tammy Jean and Joseph Eugene. Later in years, Ruby was united in marriage to Ed Bowman on December 29, 1981 at Holdrege. To this union one son, Michael Christopher Bowman was born and Ruby also accepted Ed’s five other children as her own. They made their home in Loomis, where Ruby enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, watching movies, dancing, was an avid collector of owls and most of all she enjoyed reading scriptures from her Bible. Ruby loved the time spent with her children and grandchildren and found great joy attending their activities.

     Besides her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her twin brother, Robert Lieb; a half-sister, Mary Ann Lieb; and twin niece and nephew in infancy.

     Ruby leaves to mourn her passing; her husband, Ed Bowman of Loomis; ten children: Laurie Ziems and her husband, Scott of Kearney, Angela Marquardt and her husband, Scott of Holdrege, Tammy Burgeson and her husband, Heath of Kearney, Joseph Pouk and his wife, Shanda of Holdrege, Michael Bowman and his wife, Amanda of Kearney, Edgar F. Bowman III of Rapid City, South Dakota, Timothy Bowman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Candace Voss and her husband, Michael of Davenport, Iowa, Pamela Magner and her husband, Kip of Lincoln, and Paul Bowman and his wife, Cathy of Pueblo, Colorado; 27 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; one sister, Patty Smith and her husband, Ed of Ashland, Nebraska; two brothers: Larry Lieb and Leroy Lieb and his wife, Kay all of Wilcox; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

      Visitation will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from

6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

     A memorial has been established in Ruby’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
