Ruth E. King, age 97, of Elm Creek died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Christian Homes in Holdrege.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the New Life Assembly Church in Kearney with Gene Schachterle, Roger Wendt, and Jeff Baker officiating. Burial will be at the Elm Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, October 18, 2013 from 4 to 6 pm at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and one hour prior to the service at the church. Ruth was born December 3, 1915 in Franklin County to Earl and Grace (Van Camp) Palmer. She graduated from Franklin High School. Ruth then attended Kearney Normal School, where she earned her teaching certificate. She married Clyde King October 12, 1941 in Lexington. They pastored churches in Nebraska, Washington, Colorado, and worked with Teen Challenge in Los Angeles, California. Ruth enjoyed painting, quilting, and keeping in touch with her family. Reading her bible, praying for her children and grandchildren, were two of her top priorities.
Surviving relatives include her daughters; Colleen Combs and her husband Wes of Pueblo, CO, Karen Schachterle and her husband Gene of Elm Creek, NE, sons; Dean King and his wife Cheryl of Elm Creek, NE, Keith King and his wife Sandi of Colorado Springs, CO, sisters; Helen Else of Phoenix, AZ, Leila Corkle and her husband Bob of Hill City, SD, 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren..
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson.
