The bill initially designed to save the Grand Island Veterans Home has died in the legislature. Grand Island Senator Mike Gloor's Priority Bill failed in the first round of debate yesterday with a 13 to 17 vote. LB 935 aimed to get the legislature involved when an existing state service is moved from one community to another.

The bill originally contained a provision looking back on the decision to move the Central Nebraska Veterans Home from Grand Island to Kearney. That portion of the bill was removed before it was voted out of committee. In order for the committee to send the bill to the full floor, Senator Gloor made a promise that he would pull the entire bill if the retroactive portion was put back in.
