Last night's severe weather left some in Central Nebraska without power. Service has now been restored for Southern Power District customers in Holdrege and Nebraska Public Power District customers in Gibbon. SPD Crews continue to work this morning to restore power to several homes in Kenesaw.
Leanne Doose with Souther Power District says Kenesaw was most affected by the storms. About 6 homes still remain without service. Crews are working to restore power but some of the damage will require repairs by the homeowners themselves.
It will take a couple days for crews to make repairs to about 10 downed power structures west of Kenesaw, but service was routed around those structures.
Last night, more than 800 customers in Gibbon were without power after several outages. NPPD restored power to all homes early this morning.
In Gibbon, golf ball sized hail combined with wind tore through the area, destroying crops and damaging property. One resident says he couldn't believe the damage.
"Well I've been in storms before but the way the wind was swirling and everything else I was listening to the scanner, also the NWS they said there was actual rotation above Gibbon they thought there was a tornado rap inside of the rain and hail at the time it hit and the way the trees were going around in circles I'm pretty inclined to believe it," said Gibbon resident Al Mayfield.
Southern Power District encourages anyone who is still without power to call SPD.
