Funeral Services for Shirley R. Blue will be conducted from the United Methodist Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Eldon Fablinger officiating. Interment will follow at the Oxford Cemetery, Oxford.

Shirley Rae Blue, 63 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska. Shirley was born on March 27, 1950 in Oxford, Nebraska the youngest of five children born to William A. “Bill” and Alda E. (Pearson) Blincow. Shirley attended the Hardscrabble Country School and later graduated from the Oxford High School with the class of 1968. Shirley pursued higher education at Lincoln General College graduating with a Bachelors degree in Nursing.

In February of 1971, she was united in marriage to Tim Grossnicklaus and to this union two children were born: Kala Jean and William Ray “Bill”. The family made their home in Oxford. Shirley worked at Fritzer Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

In June of 1977, she was united in marriage to Michael Sladky in Denver, Colorado and to this union two children were born: Christopher Jay and Kimberly Kathryn. Mike brought two sons to the marriage, Michael Keith and James Alan. The family made their home Colorado and later moved to Oxford.

On June 22, 1996, she was united in marriage to Curtis Alan Blue at the First Baptist Church in Oxford. Curt brought two children to the marriage, Michelle Terreen and Aaron James.

Shirley enjoyed singing and doing singing telegrams for family and friends. Shirley was an excellent cook. She also loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, and attend their many activities.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oxford and the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Aaron in 2001; brother, Arthur Blincow in 1953; aunts, Charlotte Jones, Doris Fish and husband, Paul, Nola Silvernail and Juanita Boe; uncle, Marvin Peterson; and father-in-law, Andrew Blue in 2005.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Curt Blue of Oxford; faithful dog, Jack; children: Kala Greenwalt and her husband, Brian of Grand Island, Nebraska, Bill Grossnicklaus and his wife, Melanie of Oxford, Keith Sladky and his wife, Serina, of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Jim Sladky and his wife, Dawn of Oxford, Chris Sladky of Waldorf, Maryland, Kim Crozier and her husband, Jeff of Bristow, Virginia, Michelle Hunter and her husband, Travis of Holdrege; her parents: Bill and Alda Blincow of Oxford; grandchildren: Logan, Lucus and Rebekah Taylor, Trevor and Colbie Greenwalt, Ashley, Skyler, and Carson Grossnicklaus, Preston, Travis, Amanda, Nathaniel and Taylor Sladky, Jeffrey and Jennifer Sladky, Bella, Evan and Ilana Crozier and McKenna, Max, Amelia and Aliva Hunter; great-grandson: Isaiah Berger; sister, Gloria Borgman and her husband, Ronald of Spearfish, South Dakota; brothers: James Blincow and his wife, Helen of Bertrand, Nebraska and Stanley Blincow and his wife, Susan of Hastings, Nebraska; aunts: Hazel Peterson of Holdrege; uncle, Mark Blincow and his wife, Janice of Oxford; mother-in-law, Carol Blue of Oxford; two brothers-in-law: Don Blue and his wife, Carol of Klein, Texas, Ron Blue and his wife, Pam of Elkhorn, Nebraska; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.

A memorial has been established in Shirley’s honor and can be made to the Oxford Fire and Rescue Squad.
