Just a little over a month after Jim Boeve stepped down as the Head Baseball Coach at Hastings College the school has found his replacement in local coaching legend Steve Spongberg.
Spongberg, who most recently lead the Sutton Mustangs Boys Basketball team to the Class C-2 State Title game has over 30 years of legion baseball experience collecting over 1260 wins during his run.
In 2010, he was named the Class A Senior legion Coach of the Year and has coached legion ball in Sutton since 2011.
"It's been about a little over a week ago that they called and asked if I had any interest in moving to Hastings College and leaving the position that I was in here and, you know, I think when you coach and you are as competitive as I have been there is always that challenge of the next level and so I said, yeah, there would truly be an interest. It was one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make because I have really enjoyed my tenure here at Sutton. I have been here over 25 years and the people in the community have been very supportive of me as has the administration so, probably one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make in my life," said Spongberg.
Coach Spongberg's appointment is effective August 1st
