A Grand Island man arrested for stabbing his girlfriend outside a Grand Island cathedral will spend up to four decades in jail.
Aslin Nabarro, 41, was sentenced Thursday to 30 to 40 years in prison for attempted first-degree murder.
Nabarro stabbed Mirna Medina Colocho 20 times in the torso and head outside Saint Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island in April.
He also cut his own throat and then fled the scene.
During the sentencing hearing Nabarro said: "I regret what I did. I know I have to pay for this. I know it's my fault, but please forgive me."
Hall County District Judge Teresa Luther said Nabarro is not eligible for probation at this time.
