Start Over Rover rescued more than a dozen dogs from a puppy mill this afternoon.

Sixteen pups were rescued from a northwest Kansas puppy mill. Volunteers from the Hastings animal shelter picked them up in McCook Wednesday.

The pooches range in age from 2 to 5 years old. They are assorted breeds and a mix of male and female.

The canines are in the evaluation stage and will receive their shots soon.

Anne Halbert from Start Over Rover says when they got the call they rushed over to save the dogs.

"When we get those calls it's because they are, um, they're done with them and so it's pretty urgent when they say if you want them come get them," Halbert said. "We go because a lot of times you get one opportunity to go and do this."

Start Over Rover is checking with shelters in Grand Island and Kearney to take in some of the dogs.

The pups should be available for adoption in two weeks.

Also, News 5 will be partnering with Start Over Rover Thursday, July 10th, for the Beastie Bonanza.

It's an all day Adopt-a-thon. The goal is to adopt 30 pets and raise around $15,000 for the shelter.
