Omaha State Senator Ernie Chambers introduced a bill this session that he says he prioritizes above any bill he has ever introduced.

That includes the many times Senator Chambers has attempted to repeal the death penalty.

So, what's the bill? LB 671, it would end the newly established mountain lion hunting season.

"In terms of animals and other helpless creatures, whether they're little children or old people need somebody to advocate for them when they cannot do it for themselves. The more help they need, the more ferocious and determined has to be the advocacy." Said Senator Chambers.

There's an estimated 22 mountain lions in our state.

Senator Chambers says they don't pose an active threat, and the only reason people are hunting them is for fun.

The bill advanced Friday in the legislature by a 31 to 5 vote.
