Within the last ten days, three people have been hospitalized with severe cases of West Nile Virus.
The Two Rivers Public Health Department said the three patients have West Nile Meningitis/Encephalitis.
That brings the total to at least 17 human cases of West Nile reported in Nebraska.
Health officials are urging residents to protect themselves during fall activities. They are urging students, coaches, fans and others to wear mosquito repellent containing DEET.
Two Rivers serves Buffalo, Dawson, Franklin, Gosper, Harlan, Kearney and Phelps counties.
Last year there were 226 human cases of the virus in Nebraska and 5 deaths.
