Tim McNicholas is a KHAS-TV NEWS 5 reporter from Chicago, IL. He joined the team in July of 2013. He’d spent the previous four years at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA. At SAU, Tim studied journalism and TV/Radio production.
"The people in Nebraska have been unbelievably kind to me since I got here," he said. "They've made it easy for me settle in."
He knew since he was just a little kid that he wanted to be a writer. Tim grew up watching and reading the work of some of Chicago’s finest reporters, but it wasn’t until high school that he gave journalism a try himself. He produced his first broadcast news stories in college and got hooked on TV reporting quickly.
After his junior year at SAU, he spent the summer interning for KNBC in Burbank, CA. Tim worked alongside Frank Snepp, a Peabody Award winner, and a newsroom full of elite reporters. WQAD-TV in Moline, Ill. took him in as an intern for his senior year.
“The news has such an important local role,” he said. “It offers a transparency that the public deserves.”
Tim has met countless fascinating people in the Cornhusker state and he’s thrilled to be able to tell their stories.
When he’s not reporting he’s cheering on the Bears and listening to classic rock albums. He’s a longtime drummer who likes Led Zeppelin a little more than any person should.
Tim’s Favorite Movie: “Forrest Gump.”
Tim's Favorite Book: “Moby Dick,” by Herman Melville.
Tim's Most Admired Journalist: Ed Murrow.
Tim’s Favorite TV Shows (aside from the news): “Homeland,” “The Newsroom,” “Breaking Bad,” and “Seinfeld.”
