Former Husker football coach and Athletic Director Tom Osborne said he wanted to wait his turn before releasing a statement.
Chancellor Harvey Perlman and Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst issued a joint statement about the 2011 comments of head football coach Bo Pelini after that season's win against Ohio State.
Coach Osborne said he knew of the recording and of what Bo said that night criticizing Husker fans and some sportswriters and doing so with obscenities.
Tom said he visited with Bo shortly after then and acknowledged Bo's temperament improved greatly thereafter.
While the comments were certainly not good, I realized that Bo had gone though an emotional week and an emotional game and was in a setting where he thought his comments were entirely private.
Bo's academic record with the football team has been the best in my recollection. The behavior of the players has been excellent for the most part. He has won 3 divisional championships and has one of the best won–loss records in the past 5 years. I am very hopeful that the players, coaches and fans will pull together as unity of purpose has been one of the major assets over the last 50 years.
Detroit Lion and former Husker defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh often talks to his former coach Bo Pelini..He has thoughts about the week in Lincoln including former Husker quarterback Tommie Frazier's comment that the defensive staff be shaken up.
