The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services tests over 50 lakes in the state for potential concern. There's only one lake affected right now.
And it happens to be the state's largest. The Martin Bay portion of Lake McConaughy is under a toxic blue-green algae alert.
Martin Bay is located at the northeast end of the lake and because of low water levels it's actually not connected to the main lake.
The alert was issued Friday.
It will last at least two weeks, because of testing. There are signs posted at the swimming area in the bay.
