Two months after John McBride announced he would be stepping down as UNK athletics director. The school announced Tuesday that it has narrowed the list of replacements to four finalists. Jean Berger has served as the Senior Associate Athletic at Northern Iowa since 2008 and has 28 years of experience in collegiate athletics administration. Mary Ellen Gillespie is currently the associate athletics director for external relations at Bowling Green State University and has experience in development and advancement of student life at both Purdue and Iowa. The third candidate Rick Goeb has manned the AD post at Bemidji State University since 2006. He is also familiar with the mat, coaching wrestling at St. Cloud State in the early 90's. And we all know about the success of the wrestling program at UNK. The fourth finalist is Paul Plinske. Plinske has been the director of Athletics at Wisconsin-Whitewater since '04. If the school sounds familiar, that's because current Nebraska AD Shawn Eichorst graduating from there and served as AD for four years. Chancellor Doug Christenson says the school is in the process of scheduling visits immediately in the hopes of naming the new athletics director prior to the start of the athletics season. The University had previously set August 1st as the target date to fill the position.
