All kinds of illnesses are going around Central Nebraska.
News 5's Ginger ten Bensel has more in this week's edition of "What's Going Around."
Dr. Janice Kutilek with the Grand Island Clinic says that she's been seeing patients with Viral Rashes. Symptoms include a fever along with a rash.
She is also seeing croup, gastroenteritis and common respiratory viruses.
Plus she's seeing patients with allergy induced wheezing.
I also brought up the topic of whooping cough vaccinations... this after a new report points out that the whooping cough vaccine *does not* prevent the spread of the disease.
Dr. Kutilek says that the whooping cough vaccine has never been one hundred percent effective.
She says that is why it's important to get a pertussis booster shot.
In 2010 there were more than twenty seven thousand cases of pertussis in the United States.
She also spoke about the more than a dozen people diagnosed with polio in Syria. She says that polio is eradicated in the United States... but is mainly found in third world countries.
She added that if there is a case of polio in the U–S... it's from another country.
Dr. Michael Johnson with the Hastings Family Practice spoke about the polio outbreak in Syria as well.
He says more people are refusing vaccinations because they are concerned about the side effects.
He says that if you don't get a polio shot, you are at risk for the illness. He says make sure your children are immunized.
And he says that bronchitis and sinus infections are still going around.
