As we head into the core of summer, we come to expect those span of days when a big dome of high pressure parks itself over the top of us, eating up anything that resembles a cloud, and the heat cumulatively builds in and doesn't let go. So far we've been able to escape that scenario. Not so in the Northeast where the New England States have been sweltering through multiple 100 degree days.
Today was a record breaking day in that part of the country with Baltimore toping the charts with a sweltering 105 degrees. Central Park in New York and Wilmington, Deleware hit 103 with 100 plus degree weather logged from Pennsylvania to central Virginia.
We seem to be living large here in the Plains with barely a hint of even 90 degree weather through the next 7 days. Last night's cold front kindly ushered in cooler, drier air, giving air conditioners a rest, with a warm-up not expected until the weekend, and even then only reaching the upper 80s.
It will stay dry as well, until the mid to latter stages of the weekend with a series of disturbances, and another cold front due to arrive on Sunday night.
