On Saturday, a family met in Grand Island to work on a Habitat for Humanity home. Coming from as far as Kearney and Norfolk, the Dobbe-Cure family spent their day helping build the latest home sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
As Lutherans, the Dobbes and the Cures used this Habitat mission project to fulfill two things. They participated in a Lutheran sponsored project and took the opportunity to celebrate two family birthdays together.
Patriarch, Jim Dobbe, also used the opportunity to learn some new skills. "I want to see how to do this," he said while working on installing soffitt.
Daughters Megan and Mikala had a hard time tearing their dad away for his surprise birthday party.
In spite of the terrible heat, Dobbe said, "This has been great. I'll be back."
The Thrivent Builds home is sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, with volunteer support from area Lutherans. This is the fourth project in the Grand Island Area. Thrivent Builds is a mission outreach, helping low-income people in the United States and third world countries.
