Congrats to 2008 NE 3rd District Artists

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) has announced the winning artists for the 2008 Congressional Art Competition: An Artistic Discovery.
The winners are listed below. Pictures of the artwork are available upon request.

First place: Sarah Epping, “Heart of the Cathedral” – Acrylic
Holdrege High School, 12th grade
Sarah’s work will be on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
Sarah is the daughter of Rod and Grace Epping

Second place: Kirsten Drury, “A Knight in the City” – Acrylic
Blue Hill Public School, 9th grade
Kirsten work will be on display in Smith’s Washington D.C. congressional office.
Kirsten is the daughter of Terry and Penny Drury

Honorable mention: Ryan Pankonin, “Kachina Cubism” – Colored pencil and marker
Perkins County High School, 11th grade
Ryan’s work will be on display in Smith’s Scottsbluff office.
Ryan is the son of Brian and Lisa Pankonin

Honorable mention: Joyce Gifford, “Midnight” – Pencil
Banner County High School, 12th grade
Joyce’s work will be on display in Smith’s Grand Island office.
Joyce is the daughter of Richard and Sue Gifford
The Congressional Arts Caucus has annually sponsored the Congressional Arts Competition as a nationwide annual art competition allowing high school students from all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories to showcase their artistic ability. One work from each congressional district will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. Congressman Smith will also display the Third District runners-up in his Washington D.C. and district offices.

Our family was unaware at the time of this competition that Representative Smith is a homosexual. We do not condone his lifestyle and have since pulled our son's artwork from that office.
