Children Learn About Recycling

Throughout April, Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity has been working with elementary students on projects that promote recycling and Earth Day. Earlier in the month, Cans for Habitat coloring sheets were posted at the Conestoga Mall and will remain there through the month. This week, the Grand Island Public Library will be joining Habitat in recycling activities and education. On Thursday, April 17 from 10-11:30 a.m., elementary students can come to the library to participate in various activities, view displays and see the giant can cube. Children will be able to guess how many cans are in the cube, with the one coming closest to the answer, winning a prize. The week of April 21-27, there will be various ways which the community can help show students how many cans can be collected to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Participating schools will hold can drives, plus a semi trailer will be on the west mall parking lot for donations to Habitat. The goal is to fill the trailer as a demonstration as to what we can all do by working together. For more information call 385-5510.

This is a great idea to actually turn something that is harmful to our lands and turn them into positive out comes. I had just spoken to some parents on recycling however more resource or programs are needed to support schools effectively.
