G.I. Theater First to Stage Spamalot

After months of waiting, Grand Island Little Theatre (GILT) has been given permission to announce their summer show, Monty Python's "Spamalot".
This musical stage production, is a take-off of the popular motion picture "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". The show is a tongue-in-cheek romp that will draw laughs from everyone, not just Python fans.
The nearly two year process to bring the show to the area started with inquiries about its availability. But, it wasn't until March of 2012 that the organization could even apply to Theatrical Rights Worldwide, for approval. For several months, GILT's board, production council and a smattering of volunteers have been aware that permission to stage the show had been granted. However, a stipulation in the contract did not allow the group to announce it had been approved until just last week.
As the first group in Nebraska granted permission to stage the musical, excitement is brewing. Plans are now underway for the show, which will open mid-June.
Because the show has such broad appeal, and a somewhat cult following, organizers are building a list of those interested in auditioning and working back-stage.
"We know there are people throughout Central Nebraska who will want to be part of this," said Director, Ron Jelinek, "So we're looking for names and contact information to build a data-base."
"There are people who've said things like 'if you're doing the show, I want to be part of it'", added Jelinek, "We need those people, and any others interested, to contact us to get on our mailing and e-mail list."
Jelinek, and Musical Director, Greg Sanchez, are seeking on-stage, backstage and musical talent from throughout the area. Jelinek may be reached by calling 308-379-2907 or e-mailing aceadcre8tor@gmail.com. Sanchez, may be reached at 308-382-8032.
Grand Island Little Theatre is currently in rehearsals for Agatha Christie's, "The Mousetrap", which runs February 15-17 and 22-24 at College Park. The final show of the 2012-2013 is "The New Kid on the Block", which will be on stage April 12-14 and 19-21. "Spamalot" will be in June and will be the first show of the 2013-2014 season.
