Area Home Builders Prep for Blitz Build

Habitat to Build Entire Home This Week

The National Home Builders Blitz with Habitat for Humanity is set to start Monday. In Nebraska, Habitat affiliates in Grand Island, Omaha and Kearney will be participating, by each building a home in one week.

On Saturday, May 31, the Grand Island Habitat affiliate did some prep work so that on Monday morning Central Nebraska Home Builders can start framing the house.

The Dedication of the house is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7 at 1015 Beal in Grand Island. Nearly forty businesses are participating in the build from contractors to suppliers.

The home is in partnership with Becky Hatcher and her daughter Tessa. When the home is complete, Hatcher will pay Habitat back through a no interest loan, based on the cost to build. Each year, mortgage payments made by Grand Island area families help pay for construction costs on one home.
