Hastings College Broncos Forensics Team warming up.)

Speaking Natural for Nebraska

The American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament (National Forensics (speech) tournament) in Akron, OH kicked off this weekend. The tournament is one of the most prestigious speech tournaments in the nation. At the collegiate level there is no division among speech teams, thus small schools like Hastings College, have to compete against bigger Universities. Today was day 2 of the tournament. All of the preliminary rounds finished up this morning. Quarterfinals followed this afternoon. Nebraska is usually is a force at the national level. This year Nebraska broke 35 events to Quarterfinals. The University of Nebraska Lincoln had the most events for Nebraska Schools in Quarterfinals with 14. Hastings and Doane Colleges had 7 events, the University of Nebraska-Omaha had 5, and the University of Nebraska-Kearney had 1 event. Other notable mentions from the area include Kansas State University with 4 and NECC in Norfolk had 1. The National Tournament will wrap up tomorrow with Semi-Finals and Finals. Check out E-News tomorrow night for all the details from Akron, Ohio.
