Mama wood duck and a dozen babies happened by the Blue Moon Cafe this afternoon on 2nd Street in Hastings. Several "spectators" decided to rescue them. They were quickly scooped up, put into a box and transported to a safer environment.
There were a few hairy moments; the first, when mama got put in the box and another when a little one scooted past well-meaning rescuers, trying to escape.
All ended well. I'm sure it will be an event to remember for this whole family as well as their rescuers.
