Dr. Cannella honored for excellence

Grand Island, Neb. — Dr. John Cannella has been named as the recipient of this year’s Physician Excellence Award at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Dan McElligott, Saint Francis president/CEO, presented Cannella with the honor during a short ceremony in conjunction with Doctor’s Day.

Other nominees for the Physician Excellence Award included Dr. Scot Bandel, Dr. Jennifer Brown, Dr. Richard Fruehling and Dr. Cory Ohlson.

“We would like to congratulate these physicians on their nomination and to thank them for exhibiting outstanding patient care,” said Marie de Martinez, Saint Francis vice president of Business Development. “Saint Francis appreciates the skill and talent of the entire medical staff.”

Letters from Saint Francis staff nominating Dr. Canella noted his kind and caring demeanor and his willingness to explain things to patients and family.

“Dr. Cannella is more than willing to explain things to patients and family members in layman terms that they can understand — even repeating instructions a few times if it is needed,” one letter said.

Staff also acknowledged Dr. Cannella’s skill as a physician and his willingness to share knowledge with other health care professionals.

“Dr. Cannella is a prime example of an excellent physician. He is caring, knowledgeable, skilled and patient.” He serves as an educator and preceptor to the nursing staff and to his colleagues,” other letters said.
