The damage of an IED

A visit from the First Lady

1st Lt. Chris Nichols, of 1st Platoon, E Co. 3/69 Ar Bn, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, was on a mission to close down our Combat Outpost(COP) near Bahgdad, Iraq late March 2010. On this mission the convoy was hit with an Improvised Explosive Device(IED). The damage done to him was a broke leg and a severed artery. the medic was quick in his actions to stop the bleeding and get him to safety. 1st Lt. Chris Nichols, was at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. were he was paid a special visit, and recieved a special gift. He was visited by the First Lady and presented a Presidential Coin. this is the cost of being in war, 1st Lt. Nichols was well aware of the risk he was taking being out with that convoy, along with his driver PVT. Terry Sherman who took shrapnell damage to the right side of his body where he lost the mobility in his right arm. Both 1st Lt. Chis Nichols and PVT Terry Sherman are in high spirits and looking forward to the day they get to see their Platoon once again.
